On the way to Stavrovouni

'We passed through groves of the largest olive trees I have ever seen . 'How old are they?' I asked . 'Who knows ?' my friend replied . 'Does an olive tree ever die ? Look how the old tree decays and how another tree grows and spreads out of it . In a village called Salamiou , which lies in the hills behind Paphos , they say that their olive trees , which are even bigger than these , have grown from stones which St. Paul and St. Barnabas threw away as they sat down to eat their food by the wayside .'
